Personal Learning Network
In my Personal Learning Network, I would like to have bloggers, tweeters, etc. who have experience and knowledge with/of technology, higher education, public education, career and technology department, being an adjunct professor, being a full-time professor, American Red Cross, UIL, crafting, babies, and my list could go on and on. I am interested in so many things both professionally and personally. I want to help others and grow myself. I know I do not know everything. I accept the fact that I need other’s help so I want to build a positive network that will have individuals who can support, encourage and challenge me to reach my goals. I really plan to have a “Semisynchronous network.” I like this because we can “collaborate and it doesn’t have to happen in real time.” I have friends who do not live in Texas so I really like that the collaborators can be geographically distant while still being able to participate in a discussion when it works best for our schedules.” According to Warlick (2009), “the tools I can use to build and grow this type of network include mailing lists, wikis, Google Docs, Twitter, group discussion boards and comment walls in Facebook, and commenting on blogs, among others.” I have to work on familiarizing myself with all these tools of course. However, it is nice to know I have a list where to begin my journey. I chose these content areas because these involve the duties and responsibilities I have at work and in my professional career as well as some of my hobbies and interest. This is why they are valuable to me. They can help me further my career as well as keep me sane when I need a mental health break! After reading some of the provided material for this module, I agree that I need my personal learning network so that I can be uplifted and given the help I need to not give up on those bad days that often come whether I like it or not. I can get new ideas and feedback on projects I give my students. I can know that I am not alone and seek new and creative ways to solve problems. Having a PLN allows me to “connect ideas that I am passionate about.” After watching the videos, I also learned that I can build my own classroom and get assistance in building my network.
